This is about the time that me and Roy were walking home one night after being at the First and Last for a pint.
We were just past the shops in Bath Road when a black car pulled up and the driver (? no name no pack drill but you will know who I mean )
said Hi lads how's about a drive in my new car. We didn't have anything to rush home for so said why not and jumped in.
The car sped off along Bath Road and we ended up on the Weston Super mare road. We were all having a good laugh and Roy said "nice car " it was a Ford Consul so it had a front bench seat and we were all sitting in the front, me at the door and Roy in the middle.......................
All of a sudden a rabbit ran across the road and the driver stamped on the brakes, well the car shook and started to slide straight towards this stone bridge, it hit the bridge with a bang and started to slide along the full length of the stonework.
There was sparks coming
of the side of the car, the noise was horrendous and I was nearly on Roy's knees to get away from the door as it was being battered off the stonework.
Finally the car came to a stop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
We all jumped out the drivers side to have a look at the car,Roy and I couldn't believe it, the car was a mess, the nearside headlamp was still working but pointing up to the sky, all along the side the car was buckled and scratched.
just then some people came running over to see if we were all right, I said "what luck maybe someone can help" the driver said "to hell with the help lets get out of here before the Police arrive
we all jumped in the car and that's when the driver said
"its nicked, lets go we cannot afford to get pulled over by the Cops"
On hearing that, we were as interested as the driver in getting away from there.
On the way home, we had to stop a couple of times to
push the headlamp back into the car as it kept dropping and shinning upwards. We got back into town and Roy and I were dropped off at the top of Broadway and the driver said he was going to dump the car
in Colley lane.
We all met up later in the week and fortunately nothing was heard about the escapade.
THIS IS THE LITTLE VILLAGE WHERE THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED

AND THIS IS THE BRIDGE, WELL IT WAS STONE WHEN
WE CRASHED INTO IT THAT NIGHT

Unfortunately a few years later, the driver through no fault of his own as he was a passenger, was involved in a bad car accident and was confined to a wheelchair. Sadly he has now passed away but is fondly remembered by all of us................
