I read a report in the Mercury earlier this year, that Blake Hall is shuting down because it requires extensive and expensive repairs.

When I frist arrived in Bridgwater, the first dance I went to, was in Blake Hall.

It was quite funny really, I went along with some lads from work ( Crypton,s in Bristol Road )
Anyway I still remember that when you went into the hall the bar was to the left, and the stage was to the right and behind you as you walked in.
So here I am with one of the lads asking the girls to dance and even on a couple of occassions asking one of the usual wall flowers. Towards the end of the night we split up a couple and after the dance the lad said you ask to walk yours home and I will ask mine, no bloody chance I said, why not he asked and thats when I told him ""she is my Sister "" you ask her and I will have yours.

And thats what we did, now he lived on the Hamp estate and I lived at the back of the Pig & Whitle, guess where my girl lived !! thats right Hamp Estate. Valuable lesson learnt that night, make sure you find out where they live before asking to walk them home, saves sore feet and a long walk home ................
