Not sure when it actually happened but the LIDO is no more - in its place is a Supermarket......
Now thats what I call a disgrace, I remember when I first moved to Bridgwater and was taken to the LIDO by my new found friends, what a great place it was !!!!!!!!!!
Mind I must admit that the weather in Bridgwater was far hotter than where I had just come from, so an out door swimming pool there, would have only been used by Penguins etc.
You will notice a couple of photos on the site taken at the LIDO and you can plainly see we were all enjoying ourselves, and I reckon the younger generations since it was demolished, have really missed out on something good.
THE ONLY TWO NAMES I HAVE OF THOSE IN THE PHOTO ARE :-
SITTING WITH THE TOWEL IS JOHN KIRK - THE ONE IN FRONT
IS ALAN SALISBURY
I remember one day we were playing"" CHICKEN"" the idea was to dive off the top board, with your hands beside your sides. I have never been a really good swimmer and the thought terrified me, not to be out done and worse still called a chicken I did it, NEVER AGAIN ----- I just seemed to head for the bottom and I reckon I just managed to get my arms forward in order to strike away from actually hitting the bottom,,,,,,,,,,, Still, when I got out the pool, I was walking tall but shaking like a leaf.
